Marlaina Nelson

Veterinarian

Dr. Marlaina Nelson was born and raised in Lagrange, GA. She started her veterinary career as a veterinary technician during her high school years and continued throughout her undergraduate education. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from LaGrange College in 2009 and then earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine Degree from University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in Athens, GA in 2013. After she finished veterinary school, she was commissioned in the United States Army as an active duty officer and veterinarian in the Veterinary Corps.

She and her husband, also a LaGrange native, were both stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado from 2013 to 2017. Dr. Nelson transferred from active duty service to the US Army Reserves shortly after her son was born in 2017. She then moved to private practice and worked as an associate veterinarian at Apalachicola Bay Animal Clinic in Eastpoint, FL for a few years before moving to Montgomery, AL in 2019. Her first job in Montgomery was the lead veterinarian at Goodwin Animal Hospital on Atlanta Highway. From there, she was placed as the lead veterinarian at Taylor Crossing Animal Hospital in Montgomery in 2021 and remained there until she was deployed with the US Army Reserves to Iraq in 2023.

Upon her return home from her deployment in 2024, she transitioned out of the corporate veterinary world to start her own private practice, Pike Road Mobile Veterinary Services, that allows her to focus on her family, be involved in her community, and practice the veterinary care she holds dear to her heart in the comfort of people's homes.

Dr. Nelson is working to open up a brick and mortar clinic in the Pike Road, AL area but will continue to provide mobile veterinary care for the people in the community who need it, as it is such an important service to provide for pets and their families. Dr. Nelson and her husband have lived in Pike Road, AL since 2020 with their son, daughter, three dogs, cat, cows and donkeys on their farm. They love to spend time outdoors, enjoy playing music together, and being involved with their community through their church and kid's schools.
